The University’s ‘Royal Holloway Egham Living Campus’ has received the prestigious Green Flag Award after achieving international quality mark for parks and green spaces.
The site is one of 2,250 in the UK to achieve the award.
Daniel Steel, Head Gardener at Royal Holloway said: “We are very proud to have achieved this award, which recognises the standards we look to uphold and continually work towards.
“It is a real testament to the diligence and hard work of the University’s Estates and Gardeners Team.
“The Egham Campus meeting the standards required for the accreditation is testament to the hard work and dedication of the University team that are working to maintain and continually improve the environment for all to enjoy – not only for students and colleagues - but crucially the local community and visitors.
“Well done to all involved.”
Green Flag Award Scheme Manager, Paul Todd MBE, said: “Congratulations to everyone involved at Royal Holloway who have worked tirelessly to ensure it achieves the high standards required for the Green Flag Award.
“Quality parks and green spaces like Royal Holloway’s Egham Campus make the country a healthier place to live and work in, and a stronger place in which to invest.
“Crucially, Royal Holloway is a vital green space for students to enjoy nature. It also provides important opportunities for local people and visitors to reap the physical and mental health benefits of green space.”
The Green Flag Award, managed by environmental charity, Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
Royal Holloway’s Egham Living Campus exists within a mature 135-acre parkland estate, characterised by diverse woodland, meadows and watercourses. Situated within an essential connective green corridor, the campus is home to a rich array of natural biodiversity.
Receiving this Green Flag Award evidences the actions we are taking in line with our RH2030s strategy commitments to Environmental Sustainability, through which we aim to embed environmental sustainability in all aspects of our operations.
