Postgraduate Research Students

Support for Postgraduate Research Students

Whether you want to pursue a career in academia or explore opportunities within industry, there is a lot to consider as a PhD student.  The Careers Service works closely with Royal Holloway’s Doctoral School to ensure you are equipped with the careers information you need to make confident career choices.  In addition to having access to all the services offered to undergraduate and postgraduate students, there are also resources specifically aimed at PhD students:

  • Researcher Development Programme: offers workshops and resources to help you develop transferable and employable skills and capabilities that will be invaluable for your doctoral research and broader professional development.
  • The Community Research Hub.  This volunteering initiative matches students who want experience applying research skills with charities and non-profits needing support.  A great way to apply your research skills in a different environment and boost your employability!
  • The Brilliant Club Researchers in Schools programme. This is an award winning charity that recruits, trains and places doctoral and post-doctoral researchers in schools to deliver university-style teaching to small groups of high performing pupils. School-based placements are coupled with a training and support programme that is delivered by qualified teachers and aims to develop teaching, transferable and professional skills.
  • Volunteer opportunities for those in STEM. Become a STEM Ambassador in Schools and Colleges.
  • If you'd like to speak to someone about your career you can book an appointment with a Careers Consultant to explore your options and help you plan your next steps. We also offer practice interviews and help with making applications.
